“As the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater, so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose

My earliest childhood experiences of anticipation, excitement, and joy surrounding the Christmas season seemed to always be heightened by the presence of a beautiful snowfall.
Have you ever pondered the similarities of Jesus and snow? Sure, the purity of the snow might lead us to thoughts about the purity of Christ, the unblemished Lamb. Sure, the peacefulness or the gentleness of a mild snowfall might lead us to thoughts about the peacefulness and gentleness of Christ, the Prince of Peace and the Gentle Healer.
However, I invite you to consider the detailed picture painted by God through the record of the prophet Isaiah that challenges us to ponder some other possible similarities of Jesus, the Living Word, and snow.
Notice from where the snow comes down. It has its home, just like God’s proclaimed Word, in the heavens and not this earth. Both are here on earth only for a season and then return from where they came. But, it is why they have come and what is accomplished while they are here, that thrills me the most.
Both were sent to bring forth life. Without God’s precious Word, Jesus, having come in just the way He did, there would be no opportunity for real, abundant, and transforming life. This Christmas as you consider the Christ child, know afresh that He came with a purpose—to bring life. Jesus was born, lived among us, was crucified, resurrected, and returned to His position at the right hand of the Father.
Praise God that Jesus came from heaven to earth and indeed succeeded in the matter for which He was sent!
